Developers donates funds to help homeless

GENEROUS funds have been bestowed to a charity to help Birmingham’s homeless and vulnerable community.

David Wilson Homes donated £3,000 to Birmingham City Mission to support the charity’s Care Centre; a drop-in for people who are homeless and marginalised in Birmingham at its bases, including one in Acocks Green.

The centres provide warm meals, friendship, activities and practical support, helping people to find solutions to move on independently.

The homebuilder previously supported the charity’s ToyLink Project, collecting and gifting a range of brand-new toys for the children referred to Birmingham City Mission.

Hannah Noble, fundraising officer at Birmingham City Mission, said: “We can’t thank David Wilson Homes enough for its fabulous support, both in giving gifts to our ToyLink project and funding for our Care Centre, supporting homeless and marginalised people in Birmingham. It is a huge contribution to making it all happen.

“The Mission runs many projects throughout the city and offers support, comfort and help to homeless, elderly and young disadvantaged people and those living in poverty.”

Birmingham City Mission’s Care Centre opens from Monday to Thursday each week during the day.

Over the past year it has received an average of 60 clients each day with varying needs, including those who attend for food, clothing, a chat and help with issues such as housing, benefits, relationships and health.

Helen Lewis, managing director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We are proud of the support our colleagues have given Birmingham City Mission, including its ToyLink Project.”

David Wilson Homes’ donation came from its Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is run by its parent company, Barratt Redrow.

It is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK, to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
