RAIL enthusiast Pete Waterman is set to showcase one of the largest model railways of the year at the NEC.
The ‘OO’ gauge model, created by record producer measuring 136 feet in length, will depict Milton Keynes and Watford Junction and will be on display at Model World Live 2026.
For Model World LIVE 2026, Pete Waterman and the Railnuts group will unite two major WCML stations in ‘OO’ gauge.
The award-winning Milton Keynes and Watford Junction layouts, normally operated as separate scenes, will be combined into one continuous display, linked by Tring Cutting to complete the full scene.
Pete Waterman said, “This will be our biggest layout in 2026 and, with our commitment to future projects, there are no plans for any other large layouts like this at the moment – it really will be unique.
“It’s also the only chance to see Watford Junction this year, and the last chance to see Milton Keynes in 2026 as we move on to the next projects.”
The Making Tracks layouts recreate sections of the West Coast Main Line (WCML), Britain’s busiest mixed-use railway, which connects London and Scotland via key locations including Watford, Milton Keynes, Rugby, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Preston and Carlisle.
The project began in 2021, when the first layout was exhibited at Chester Cathedral.
Since then, new scenes have been built annually, culminating in a major milestone at Model World LIVE 2024, where the group achieved an official Guinness World Record for the world’s largest portable model railway.
