Community wardrobe launches in North Solihull

Solihull Editorial 23rd Jan, 2026   0

A COMMUNITY wardrobe exchange is set to open its doors across North Solihull to support families and individuals this winter.

The Uplift Initiative CIC will be offering weekly pop-up events at different local venues to those affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis.

The first Community Wardrobe Exchange will take place on January 29 from 10:00am at the Evergreen Family Hub in Kingshurst.

The Wardrobe Exchange will then continue weekly at rotating locations, including Smith’s Wood Family Hub on February 3 and Riverside Family Hub on February 10.

There is no criteria, no referrals, and no pre-booking.

Each event will offer free adult and children’s clothing, a small clothing repair and mending workshop, yoys and a small play area for children as well as tea, coffee, and light refreshments.

All items are completely free. Attendees are encouraged to bring a bag if possible.

Donations are welcome on the day but are never expected or required.

Tammy Pickett, from The Uplift Initiative CIC, said: “The launch is particularly special as organisers reach out to families who are feeling the pressure of rising costs during the colder months. With essentials becoming harder to afford, the Community Wardrobe Exchange has been created to offer free clothing and a warm, welcoming space, without judgement or barriers.

“North Solihull is our home, and the organisers say they can see first-hand the impact the cost of living is having on local families.

“The project is about stepping in to help in a practical, caring way whether that’s providing a warm coat, easing financial pressure, or simply offering reassurance that people are not alone.”
