A COMMUNITY group is on the hunt for a premises as its recycling initiative continues to grow.
We Can Community has been overwhelmed with support from residents and business across Solihull in its aim to help those in need.
The project was founded three years ago by Ryan Hulance, who launched the initiative with a clear and practical goal: to raise enough funds through recycling to buy a truck of food for those in need.
What began as a small, grassroots community effort has since grown into a structured and impactful operation, now supported through a Community Interest Company (CIC).
The group currently collects more than one tonne of aluminium cans every month, with volumes continuing to rise.
Looking ahead, Ryan has set a clear and ambitious target: to reach between three-and-a-half and five tonnes per month, the minimum level required to fully achieve and sustain the original goal at scale.
However, this growth has created a new challenge.
Due to the lack of appropriate premises, collected cans are currently being stored at a private residential address, which is no longer viable as volumes increase.
Ryan said: “The community response has been incredible.
“But to keep growing safely and responsibly, we urgently need access to secure, dry industrial space. Without it, we risk having to slow down just as the project is gaining real momentum.”
For this to happen We Can is on the look out for rent-free or meanwhile-use industrial premises in Solihull.
The group is able to cover utilities, maintain the space, and vacate at short notice if required.
