BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees returned to winning ways as a late try from Joe Rogers secured a 38-31 win at Bromsgrove II.

Rogers dotted down two minutes from time at Finstall Park after Adam Trombley, Liam Dunne, James Widdop, Ryan Sleaford and Joel Smyth all scored tries in a bonus point victory for the Bees.

And the result means Solihull sit second in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table just five points behind leaders Barkers Butts.

The Bees made the perfect start when captain Trombley crossed after just seven minutes with Widdop unable to add the extras.

However, the home side pounced on a Bees handling error to score their first try and struck again soon after to take a seven-point lead.

The visitors drew level just before the half-hour mark when Smyth broke from a maul and Dunne crashed over from three-yards out as Widdop kicked the conversion.

Bromsgrove reclaimed the lead with another converted try only for Widdop to evade two tackles and run in out wide from 22-yards out to close the gap to two points at the interval.

And the Bees went back in front early in the second half as Sleaford dotted down and Widdop converted as Solihull secured a try bonus point.

The Boars levelled the game 10 minutes into the second period with a bonus point try of their own.

And the home then crossed despite losing a player to the sin-bin to leave the visitors stunned.

However, Smyth touched down from the back of a ruck and Widdop converted to level the scores with seven minutes left to play.

And Rogers provided the game’s decisive moment on 78 minutes when he ran in unopposed from 20-yards out as Widdop added the extras.

The Bees saw out the final couple of minutes despite losing Sleaford and Pete Gordon to the sin-bin while Bromsgrove had a player sent off after the final whistle for dissent.

Birmingham and Solihull are next in action against Bournville II on Saturday, December 13 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Portway.
