ECO-MINDED pupils at Coppice Academy have been praised for their action on climate change.

Saqib Bhatti, Meriden and Solihull East MP, met pupils and staff to celebrate the inspiring work being done by the school’s Eco Council.

During the visit, Mr Bhatti toured the school grounds, saw the Eco Council’s projects in action, and spoke with students about their ongoing efforts to tackle environmental challenges within their school and local community.

From litter-picking initiatives and plastic-free lunch campaigns to wildlife gardening and energy-saving projects, the young eco-leaders have been making a real impact.

The Eco Council, made up of pupils from across the year groups, meets regularly to plan initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability and raising environmental awareness. Their projects have included a school-wide recycling scheme, creating bug hotels to boost biodiversity, and running energy-saving awareness days.

Headteacher, Mrs Green said “We are so proud of our Eco Council and the way they have taken ownership of environmental issues. Their enthusiasm inspires the whole school community.

“Having our local MP visit and recognise their efforts has been a fantastic boost for the children.”

Mr Bhatti said: “I’m incredibly impressed by the creativity, passion, and leadership shown by the pupils at Coppice Academy. Their Eco Council is a shining example of how young people are stepping up to take meaningful action on environmental issues not just talking about change but driving it.”
