SOLIHULL Moors are still awaiting their first league win of the season after suffering a 1-0 home defeat against managerless Yeovil Town.

Moors have failed to win any of their first seven games of the season as Junior Morias’ goal settled the contest at Damson Park.

The result leaves Matt Taylor’s side rooted to the bottom of the National League table on goal difference.

Yeovil went close in the opening couple of minutes as Laurie Walker tipped Josh Sims’ shot from inside the penalty area over the crossbar.

Moors responded with a chance of their own as visiting goalkeeper Jed Ward comfortably held debutant Jacob Wakeling’s strike from the left-hand side of the penalty area.

And the home side went close just past the quarter-hour mark as Emmanuel Sonupe saw his deflected effort trickle inches past the post.

Moors remained on top as Sonupe sent a volley wide from just inside the penalty area following a corner from the right.

However, Yeovil broke the deadlock in first-half injury time when James Plant’s initial effort deflected into the path of Morias at the back post who volleyed home from close range.

The home side looked to draw level early in the second half as Wakeling fired into the side netting from inside the box.

And Wakeling spurned a glorious chance to draw the home side level just before the hour mark as he latched onto a long ball only to clip the top of the crossbar when one-on-one.

Moors continued to test Ward in the Yeovil goal as the visiting keeper pushed Wakeling’s dipping effort from distance behind for a corner.

Brave blocks from Brad Nicholson and Louis Jackson prevented Yeovil from doubling their lead as Moors put their bodies on the line to stay in the contest.

Yeovil went close again five minutes from time as Luke McCormick drove towards goal before drilling a shot inches past the post with Walker at full stretch.

Moors had one final chance deep into injury time with Jackson only able to head a free-kick wide to leave Solihull winless and bottom of the table.

Solihull are next in action against Boston United on Saturday, September 6 with kick-off at 3pm at the Jakemans Community Stadium.
