SOLIHULL Moors have appointed former Premier League manager Terry Connor as assistant coach to boss Matt Taylor.

The 62-year-old will combine his role at Moors with managing the Grenada national team.

Connor spent a number of years working as Mick McCarthy’s assistant at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ipswich Town and Republic of Ireland.

He managed Wolves for 13 games in the Premier League in 2011/12 with the club’s relegation from the Premier League all but confirmed.

Moors head coach, Taylor said: “Terry is one of the most respected and experienced coaches in the game and it’s fantastic to have him here.

“He has a proven track record in developing players, demanding the best from the people around him, and it’s a huge compliment to the club that someone so well regarded at all levels wants to play a part in what we aim to build here.”

Moors chairman, Darryl Eales added: “After last season’s disappointing campaign and, especially our run of injuries, we talked a lot about the balance of the first team staff and when we knew Terry was available, it was obvious to all of us that he was top of our list.

“He still has such energy and passion for the game, he is very highly qualified, and it’s an exciting appointment that I think, alongside our player signings this summer, really indicates our intentions for the season ahead.”

Connor made more than more than 400 appearances in his playing career which included spells with Leeds United, Brighton and Hove Albion and Portsmouth.

He also worked with McCarthy at APOEL, Cardiff City and Blackpool.
