Since my last Westminster Diary, I have had an extremely busy period in Westminster and at home in Meriden and Solihull East.
Last week, following my election as Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Water Safety, I shared the story of the heartbreaking loss our community in North Solihull suffered in December 2022 with the tragic loss of four young boys — Finlay, Samuel, Thomas, and Jack.
I shared their story in the House of Commons — not only to honour their lives, but to push for urgent change. I called for immediate improvements to water safety education in schools and offered to work with the Government to make change happen.
Too many children remain unaware of the dangers posed by open water, particularly in winter months. No parent should have to experience such heartbreaking loss.
This is not a party-political issue — it is a matter of saving lives. I am committed to working across party lines to ensure our education system prepares children to understand and navigate these real, often overlooked risks. We owe it to Finlay, Samuel, Thomas, and Jack — and to every child and their families — to act now. Strengthening water safety education can and will save lives.
I am always thrilled to invite constituents down to Westminster and I had the opportunity to do that this week, at the National Parliamentary Breakfast in Parliament, with local Vicar Caz Hughes joining me for the event. The National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast is an annual event held in Westminster Hall, part of the Houses of Parliament, where church leaders and MPs gather to pray for the nation and its leaders.
The breakfast serves as a platform for prayer and reflection on the role of faith in public life, strengthening the relationship between church leaders and parliamentarians. It is usually attended by prominent figures including The Speaker, The Lord Speaker, The Prime Minister, The Leader of the Opposition and the leader of all other parties.
Next month, I’m excited to be hosting a Careers Fair at WMG Academy Solihull on July 10 where everyone is welcome.
This Careers Fair will bring together a wide range of employers and organisations from across sectors — including engineering, healthcare, finance, tech, public services, and more. It’s a fantastic chance to explore future career options, ask questions, and meet people who are passionate about what they do.
Whether you’re considering apprenticeships, university routes, or going straight into work, there will be something here to help you take that next step.
So come along, bring your curiosity — and maybe a few questions — and get inspired about the future.
I look forward to seeing you there.
