A YARDLEY schoolboy has been handed a top award.
Jare has been awarded a Highly Commended Certificate for the Young Active Citizen Award by the West Midlands Lieutenancy.
The award was formally presented by Simon Topman, West Midlands Deputy Lieutenant, at a special event.
The year 11 pupil at Cockshut Hill School is the current head student and has played a leading role in the school’s Student Leadership Team, Equalities Committee, and Charity Committee, where he has championed inclusive change and helped raise funds for the NHS University Hospitals Charity.
Among his many achievements, Jare successfully lobbied for fairer lunchtime access across all year groups, an initiative that resulted in change for pupils.
He also supports new pupils by helping them settle into school life, delivers assemblies, and regularly assists with well-being activities.
The school said Jare arrived in the UK from Nigeria in 2023 and, in an exceptionally short time, has become a standout figure in the Cockshut Hill community.
It added that his behaviour, leadership, and tireless commitment to equity and service led staff to nominate him for this prestigious regional award.
The Young Active Citizen awards were launched by the West Midlands Lord Lieutenancy in 2020 and are open to young people who show dedication and passion to others.
Jason Bridges, principal at Cockshut Hill said: “Jare is an exceptional young person.
“He leads with humility, speaks up with purpose, and always puts others first.
“His impact on our school has been profound, and we’re incredibly proud to see him recognised as a Young Active Citizen.”
