Early Bird deadline to subscribe to new council green waste service

Sarah Mason 16th Jun, 2025   0

REGISTRATION is open for garden waste collection service across Solihull.

In line with most other councils in the West Midlands and the majority of councils in the country, Solihull Council will be charging to collect household garden waste.

This year the cost will be £49, but anyone who registers before Friday, July 11 an Early Bird discount subscription rate of £44 will be applied.

Subscribing to the garden waste is optional.

For information about other ways to manage garden waste, please check the council website.

Other options include taking your garden waste to the Bickenhill Household Waste and Recycling Centre (appointments will need to be booked in advance) or composting garden waste. Residents can also reduce the cost by sharing a subscription with a neighbour.

The council is urging residents not to put garden waste in rubbish or recycling bins, adding it has to be kept separate or can’t be collected.

Councillor Ken Hawkins, cabinet member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: “I recognise that many people will be disappointed, but faced with considerable budgetary pressures, charging for our garden waste collection service, as other councils do already, is a fair one.

“Residents have the option of paying for a fortnightly collection which they will receive throughout the year, with the exception of a short break over Christmas and New Year, or disposing of their garden waste themselves by taking it to the household waste and recycling centre at Bickenhill or by using a compost bin.

“We have also introduced an Early Bird discount to make the service cheaper for residents. Just register before 11 July to get the reduced rate.”
