RSPCA appealing for information after cat and five kittens abandoned in Temple Balsall

AN animal charity is appealing for information after a cat and her five kittens were abandoned near Temple Balsall.

The RSPCA says they were discovered beside a flytipped sofa on May 8 in a layby off Balsall Street.

Charlotte Holder, RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer, has appealed to anyone with information on where they came from or who left them alone beside the busy road to get in touch.

She said: “All the cats were very friendly which suggests they were someone’s pets. Sadly they were all underweight and dehydrated and mum had fur loss on her back end. None had microchips. They are now getting the care they need at a rescue centre.

“It’s really sad to think the likelihood is that they were dumped on purpose because they are no longer wanted by their owners – or they felt they were no longer able to care for them.

“It’s never the right thing to do to abandon an animal like this, there is plenty of help and advice out there for struggling pet owners, such as on the RSPCA’s website.”

The charity is reminding the public that when an animal is in need, the quicker they get help the better.

It said if anyone finds a small pet who has been abandoned, take them directly to a local vet or rescue centre where the teams can call in the RSPCA if there’s evidence that the animal has been neglected or abused.

Anyone with information should contact the RSPCA’s appeals line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference 01513888.
