MERIDEN and Solihull East MP, Saqib Bhatti, has called upon the Attorney General to review the sentence of a convicted paedophile.
Daniel Clarke was jailed for seven years and six months, after pleading guilty to sexual offences against six vulnerable children.
At a hearing in February, Clarke pleaded guilty to offences including making indecent photographs of a child, assaulting children by touching, and inciting children to engage in sexual activity with no penetration.
It is reported he worked as a teaching assistant at a school in Solihull and, separately, as a personal assistant to several children.
Mr Bhatti has called for the case to be reviewed under the Government’s Unduly Lenient Sentences scheme, which allows the Attorney General to take action if a sentence fails to properly reflect public concern about a case.
Mr Bhatti said: “I am horrified to learn about these horrific crimes committed by Daniel Clarke.
“As a father myself, I cannot begin to comprehend the pain and anguish felt by the parents, and the rest of the community, who are disgusted by Clarke’s acts.
“The crimes committed by Clarke are of such a heinous and serious nature that I feel the sentence handed down to him, that of seven years imprisonment, is not reflective of the seriousness and extent of his crimes.
“That is why I have written to the Attorney General to ask that he review the sentence handed down by the Crown Court and to refer the sentence to Unduly Lenient Scheme.”
