CELEBRATIONS were in order when a Solihull student was handed a top award.

Hayaat Hussain has been awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the former Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Shahin Ashraf , in honour of her exceptional leadership and positive impact within the College and wider community.

The Motor Vehicle student and Student Voice president was given the certificate in a special ceremony at the Mayor’s parlour.

The award celebrates her outstanding service as Student Voice President, her work in championing important issues such as knife crime awareness, and her continued advocacy for women in STEM.

Throughout her presidency, Hayaat has spearheaded campaigns and events across the College’s campuses aimed at tackling knife crime, working in collaboration with local police and youth organisations. Her dedication has not only educated and empowered her peers but also fostered a safer, more informed college community.

In her role as ambassador for women in STEM, Hayaat organised FutureHer, a student conference featuring guest speakers from diverse industries, designed to inspire students and highlight the vital contributions of women in technical fields.

Her efforts continue to challenge stereotypes and encourage greater female participation in engineering and automotive disciplines.

In recognition of these accomplishments, the former Mayor shared personal advice and counsel with Hayaat during their meeting, commending her commitment and courage.

College Principal, Dr Rebecca Gater, said: “Hayaat is a remarkable student leader and an inspiring role model to her peers. Her energy, integrity and determination to make a difference are exactly what we hope to nurture at the College. We are incredibly proud of all she has achieved.”
