Sheldon man pleads guilty to causing Shard End Boxing Day crash

A SHELDON man has admitted causing the death of a mother and daughter in a Boxing Day crash.

Amanda Riley, 49, and Linda Philips, 72, both died in 2023, following a collision on Meadway at the junction with Kitt’s Green Road, in Shard End.

Mohammed Ibrahim, pleaded guilty to to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, and three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Birmingham Crown Court.

West Midlands Police said the 25-year-old fled the scene and later presented himself to hospital, where he was arrested.

Investigators found Ibrahim was driving his BMW 420D between 80 and 84mph in a road with a speed limit of 30mph.

Ibrahim was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing in July.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from our serious collision investigation unit, said: “Amanda and Linda tragically lost their lives, and others were injured due to the selfishness and dangerous driving of Ibrahim.

“He made no attempt to help anyone and ran off, rather than face up to what he’d done, but we managed to quickly identify and arrest him.

“This incident has devastated a family who we have continued to support during these tragic times.

“Nothing will ever bring Amanda or Linda back, but we hope that this plea will provide the family with a sense of justice.”
