WEST Midlands Police is set to host the 63rd annual National Police Dog Trials.

The event will be held at three sites across the region including our state-of-the art police training centre, Tally Ho from May 7 to 10.

The four-day event will see police dogs and their handlers from across the country compete in a series of trials including agility, searching and obedience.

And to help us promote the dog trials, the force asked a selection of schools from across the West Midlands to design a poster for the event.

They received hundreds of entries and accompanied by police puppies Archie and Kipling, Chief Constable Craig Guildford chose the winner.

West Midlands Police will also be hosting the National Police Dog Trials Community Open Day on May 10 that will be open to members of the public.

This will be a free event but tickets will be limited, so reservation is suggested.

There will be demonstrations from departments such as the Drones, Firearms and the police puppies will also be making an appearance.

West Midlands Fire and Ambulance Services will also hold demonstrations.

Chief Inspector Dan Lowe from the Operations Unit, said: “We’re looking forward to hosting the 63rd National Police Dog Trials, the first one for WMP.

“Our police dog teams are extremely valuable to police forces and we couldn’t do this job without their support. Over the years, our dogs have had incredible results detaining offenders, finding missing and vulnerable people and recovering vital evidence.

“Every day they work to keep our communities safe in the West Midlands and across the country. We can’t wait to showcase their skills and show you how amazing they really are.

“All of those competing will be showcasing skill, control and discipline of the highest standard.

“We look forward to seeing many of you at our community open day.”
