FOOTBALL - Solihull Moors suffer narrow defeat at promotion hopefuls Forest Green

MATT Taylor felt Solihull Moors produced the best performance under his management so far despite losing 1-0 away at promotion-chasing Forest Green Rovers.

A stunning strike from Adam May on the half-hour mark saw Moors slip to a narrow defeat at the New Lawn.

The result means Solihull sit 16th in the National League table, six points clear of the relegation zone with six matches left to play.

And Taylor admits his side did not show enough cutting edge despite making plenty of inroads in the final third.

Taylor said: “The performance was excellent, in the second half we dominated the ball, we had more chances and defended our box really well.

“It was just that one moment of quality that we didn’t have and you see what the difference in the game is.

“I’m proud of the players in the way they approached the game, without the ball we were solid, we didn’t give away a huge amount of territory, we got our press right.

“It was just that little bit of quality when we got into really good areas and had moments in the game, we just couldn’t find the cutting edge.

“We’ve got nothing out of the game but that’s the best we’ve played since I’ve been here.

“We’ve got six games left and we want to try and finish the season as positively as possible.”

The home side went close early on as Reece Hall-Johnson produced a stunning diving header to clear the ball off the line following a corner from the left.

However, Forest Green broke the deadlock in style on 30 minutes when May curled a sensational first time effort into the top right corner from 25-yards out.

Moors almost drew level five minutes before half time when debutant Elliot Thorpe burst down the right and delivered a low cross into the path of Manny Duku who saw his initial effort saved by Ted Cann before his follow-up ricocheted against the post.

The visitors looked to draw level early in the second half as Cann held Jamey Osborne’s effort.

And Cann later kept out James Clarke’s low drive as Moors pushed for an equaliser in vain.

Solihull travel to Southend United on Saturday, April 12 with kick-off at 3pm at Roots Hall.
