CHILDREN’S author and wildlife presenter Jess French visited a Bentley Heath school to inspire the next generation of writers.

Pupils at Bentley Heath C of E Primary School were treated to workshops with the Protect the Planet author.

She was also on hand to answer any questions budding authors had and to sign copies of her books.

Jess also led a special session for the pupils in the new Widney Close school’s conservation area for the younger pupils where they got up close with nature.

The conservation area has undergone a remarkable transformation.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of parents and the wider community it is now home to a re-lined pond, an outdoor classroom, reading areas, den-building stations, mud kitchens, and a sensory garden.

Hannah Cook, headteacher, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with our new and improved Conservation Area and couldn’t be more grateful to our local community and our parents who have been so supportive and generous with their time, skills, donations and enthusiasm for this aspect of school life.

“There was no better person than Jess French, with her love of nature and passion for the outdoors, to officially open this area and inspire our children with her books.”
