Solihull Editorial 22nd Feb, 2025   0

SOLIHULL Council’s application for exceptional financial support (EFS) from the Government has been successful.

The Council applied for emergency government support in a bid to fill part of the £6.8million hole in its budget.

But it did not requested to raise council tax above government approved levels.

The Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government revealed it had agreed in principal to provide 30 councils with support to manage financial pressures via the EFS process.

It added Councils were provided with in-principle capitalisation support in February 2025 ahead of their budget setting.

Solihull Council support was agreed in-principal for a total of £32.658million with £15.615milllion agreed in-principle for 2-24/25.

Councillor Ian Courts, leader of the Council said: “I promised to keep you updated on the Council’s financial situation, and I am pleased to be able to share that our application to government for EFS has been successful.

“The Government has recognised that this support is essential for us at the present time and has approved the application in full.

“The Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy will reflect this updated position and be presented to Full Council on February 27.”
