BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees produced a stunning comeback to beat Coalville 27-22 after scoring a try with the final play of the game.

The Bees overturned a 14-point deficit as Cameron May touched down with the final play at Portway as Solihull claimed back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Tries from Will Heath, Cole Elleman and Harry Garrett saw the home side mount an impressive comeback before May dotted down at the death.

The result means Solihull sit seventh in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table.

And the home side made the perfect start when Heath scored a fine individual try after just four minutes but was unable to add the extras.

Coalville reduced the deficit to two points with a penalty before completing the turnaround with a converted try under the posts.

The Bees responded when Heath kicked a penalty of his own from 40-yards out.

Defences remained on top for the remainder of the half with Solihull trailing by two points at the interval.

Coalville scored their second try just two minutes into the second period in the corner.

Injuries forced the Bees to shuffle the pack and Coalville took advantage to score a converted try on the hour mark.

However, facing a 14-point deficit, Elleman rounded off a fine team move four minutes later after the Bees stole the ball at a lineout.

And Coalville’s fly-half picked up a yellow card with nine minutes left to play to leave the visitors down a player for the remainder of the game.

Solihull set up a grandstand finish with six minutes remaining as Garrett touched down and Heath added the extras to close the gap to two points.

And as Coalville looked to make the game safe, the Bees turned the ball over and May scored in the corner to snatch the points at the death with Heath converting superbly from the touchline.

May’s score also saw the Bees claim a try bonus point.

Birmingham and Solihull Bees are next in action against Broadstreet II on Saturday, February 15 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Portway.
