A CARE home resident took a trip down memory lane to relive his life-long passion for horses.
William ‘Billy’ Irving, aged 92, visited Solihull Riding School to get up close with its residents and their riders.
John Hurst, a former activity coordinator at The Priory, who is now a volunteer at the home, organised the trip for Billy, knowing his love for the horses, racing and show jumping.
John was himself a show-jumper for many years and shares his experiences with Billy.
Billy said: “I had a fantastic day! I loved watching the horses jump again and being able to hold them close. I can’t wait to go back. It was so nice to reminisce and recall my memories of days at the races, and enjoyment of riding horses.”
During their visit to Solihull Riding School, Billy was delighted to meet Chloe, granddaughter of the legendary show jumper, Harvey Smith, and Jack, a retired equestrian vet and founder member of 608 Vet equestrian.
Home manager at The Priory, Cheryl Harbourne, added: “The day was a huge success. It was wonderful to see Billy so happy and in his element. He has photos of himself on horseback in his room, and letters and photos with famous jockeys.
“We are so pleased to be able to support his passion and are looking forward to arranging another trip back to the stables, soon. We love to support all of our residents’ passions and interests, so it’s great to be able to give Billy this experience.”
