SOLIHULL West and Shirley MP showed his support for the work of the Royal British Legion (RBL) at an event in Parliament.

Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst attended the event which introduced new MPs to the work of the RBL and to strengthen relationships with returning MPs who have served in the Armed Forces.

The guests also heard from Gemma Barnes, vice-captain of Team UK who are set to take part in the Vancouver Invictus Games which start tomorrow (February 8) and will see 500 competitors come together from 23 nations.

Mark Atkinson, director general of the Royal British Legion, said: “It was great to see so many MPs engaging with the work of the Royal British Legion. It is important for MPs and their staff to be aware of the support available to those serving, those who have served, their families, and the bereaved.

“The Royal British Legion is at the heart of a national network that supports our Armed Forces community through thick and thin, ensuring that their unique contribution is never forgotten.”

Dr Shastri-Hurst MP said: “It was a fantastic event. The Royal British Legion continues to be the key provider of support for former service personnel, providing a wide range of services.

“I have met and worked alongside the Royal British Legion and as we approach the 80 year anniversary of Victory in Europe Day I look forward to supporting events in the constituency.

“We are also welcoming the Invictus Games 2027 to Solihull, and I know many constituents are excited that these excellent games are taking place right on our door step.

“If any of my constituents who have served need support, I would urge them to speak to the Royal British Legion by calling 0808 802 8080.”
