MATT Taylor hopes to achieve ‘something special’ with Solihull Moors following his appointment as the club’s new head coach.
Moors acted quickly to replace Barrow-bound Andy Whing after the former Moors boss suddenly departed Solihull to join the League Two club earlier this week.
Taylor takes over a Moors side who sit seventh in the National League table, having departed Solihull’s divisional rivals Wealdstone to take up the vacant post at Damson Park.
The 43-year-old is in the dugout for this weekend’s home match against Halifax Town with Moors seeking to end a run of two straight defeats.
Taylor said: “If we take it one game at a time, I’m confident we can achieve something special this season.
“I’m quietly confident in what we can achieve together. With the quality we have in the squad and the right mentality, we can make this a successful season.
“The aim is to finish as high as possible. It starts with winning games, and our next focus is Halifax.
“The players have been excellent in training, and we’re fully focused on getting three points this weekend.
“The hard work and commitment are there, and that’s a great foundation to build on.”
Taylor’s former employers Wealdstone sit 21st in the National League table, having joined the Stones in May 2024 following a seven-month stint in charge of League One side Shrewsbury Town.
And Taylor wants to bring expansive and exciting football to Damson Park and insists his side will play with a never-say-die attitude.
Taylor added: “It was a really difficult decision to leave Wealdstone, and I’m grateful for everything they have done for me.
“However, the opportunity to work with a fantastic group of players, an excellent director of football, and a visionary chairman was too good to turn down.
“Fans can expect to see a team that gives everything on the pitch – desire, application, and a never-give-up attitude.
“We want to play expansive and exciting football, but above all, we want to make our supporters proud.
“We want to bring in new supporters, get local businesses involved, and create an atmosphere that represents the people of Solihull.”
Solihull host Halifax on Saturday, January 25 with kick-off at 3pm at Damson Park.
