WYTHALL Animal Sanctuary has been given a cash boost to cover vet fees and food bills.
The Middle Lane charity received a £1,500 donation from David Wilson Homes as part of the developer’s Community Fund scheme.
The sanctuary, which was founded in 1963, is dedicated to the care and rehoming of a range of animals, including cats, dogs, rabbits, and ponies. It also operates as a forever home for some animals it may not be able to be rehomed for various health reasons.
The charity will nurse all of its patients back to good health, offering checkups, neutering, vaccinations and microchipping, all before trying to find the animal a brand-new home.
David Wilson Homes’ donation was made as part of The Barratt Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
Amie Lanckham-Dixon, animal carer and volunteer co-ordinator at Wythall Animal Sanctuary, said: “Our work is so important to every staff member and volunteer here at the sanctuary as, without us, these animals wouldn’t stand a chance. We don’t give up on any animal and believe that every single one deserves a chance.
“The £1,500 donation is an incredible amount and will be used to help fund our never-ending vet fees and help us to provide food for our animals.
“In total we have 18 cat pens, can house up to 12 dogs and four rabbits, and we have two resident ponies.
“We have many supporters who set up regular donations which is a massive help for us to get through each month. Without our supporters and volunteers, we couldn’t run this rescue. Receiving donations like this is super important as we aren’t blessed to have a massive influx of donations and this enables us to help more animals.
“The last few years have been difficult financially, but with the help of our amazing supporters we have ploughed through and really hope we can continue to help more animals for years to come.”
The David Wilson Homes team also volunteered with the charity earlier in 2024.
A total of 11 members of the team from David Wilson Homes, based nearby at Tenchlee Place development in Hall Green, offered their time and visited the charity to help with a range of projects.
These projects included cleaning and decluttering areas of the site, repainting all of the dog run fencing, weeding around the dog pens, clearing the fields of weeds and creating a new path to make the fields more accessible.
Helen Lewis, managing director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “As a leading developer it’s important that we support the community in the areas in which we build new homes.
“Wythall Animal Sanctuary is doing vital work in helping animals in the area restore their health and find a new home, so we are very proud to support the charity.”
