A NEW look Core theatre could see singers, dancers and actors take centre stage once more from April.
The main auditorium is set to welcome audiences as remediation works to the roof as well as additional improvements to stage equipment press ahead.
A full programme of music, theatre and dance has been drawn up.
Councillor Qais, cabinet member for Communities at Solihull Council, said: “The remediation works to the roof of The Core Theatre auditorium are progressing with the aim of an end of April 2025 opening. However, this will be subject to the works continuing to be on schedule.
“Once open, audiences can expect a diverse and exciting calendar of shows and performances, including top tribute acts, musicals, film, comedy and productions from local theatre societies. There are also plans to hold a celebratory variety performance in the spring, hosted by the Mayor of Solihull for her charity fundraising event.
“It will be wonderful to see the main theatre auditorium open again after this extended closure. The Core is the cultural heart of Solihull and the theatre is its heartbeat.
“Everyone involved with The Core is excited and committed to reestablishing The Core Theatre as a thriving and successful venue, and to welcoming back its loyal and supportive audiences.”
In September 2022 Solihull Council was forced to close The Core’s doors after reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC), which is prone to collapse, was identified at the theatre following a routine inspection last year.
Further investigations at the auditorium and stage roof indicated further work needed to take place before the venue could reopen.
Several of the shows, including the borough’s much-loved pantomime, were moved to The Artrix in Bromsgrove.
The rest of The Core building has been open throughout and a programme of shows, events and activities will continue to be hosted in the Studio theatre, Courtyard Gallery, Encore Café Bar, Core Creatives, Solihull Connect and The Core Library.
