Life-saving equipment donated to hospital in memory of loving great-grandad

THE MEMORY of a much-loved Solihull grandad will live on after his family donated medical equipment to Heartlands Hospital.

Ramanbhai Surti died last year at the age of 86 and his family have raised the funds for a bladder scanner for the heart and renal departments.

His wife, Hansaben and her five sons Hitendra, Kirti, Jayesh, Mukesh, Dipak along with their wives dug deep to raise just over half of the funds for the machine.

The remainder was topped up by gift aid funds from the Heartlands Hospital Charity.

His son, Hitendra, said: “We decided that in remembrance of my Dad we would make a donation towards equipment to aid the NHS Solihull and Heartlands hospitals.




“The Bladder scanner was requested by the NHS trust with Solihull and Heartlands hospital patients to benefit from it in the heart failure and renal department as it was not available at the time my Dad was treated at Solihull and Heartland Hospitals.

“Currently there is no Bladder scanner available at these hospitals.”


Ramanbhai came to the UK in 1965 and set up home in Sparkbrook.

He and Ramanbhai moved to Solihull in 1986.

Over the years he worked at BSA, NVT before working at Solihull’s Jaguar Land Rover plant were her was an inspector.

He also worked at a post office where he was a manager.

Hitendra said during his time there Ramanbhai was held at gun point during a robbery and was awarded a bravery certificate by the post office.

He left his wife, five sons and their wives with 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
