PRIMARY school children made a splash for Children in Need.

Pupils at Balsall Common Primary School Academy headed to the pool and raised £1,174 for the charity which supports children across the country.

The school’s swim teacher, Ryan Bird was inspired to take up the mantel after hearing the BBC WM presenters had took on the challenge of swimming 1,000miles alongside colleagues from across the nation.

To date, all the pupils and staff – including the youngest ones and the school’s swimming team have completed 48,174 lengths of the school’s pool out of a total 123,800.

And they will continue to head to the pool and hope to have completed the challenge next week.

Headteacher, Mark Mitchell said: “I am so proud to be the headteacher of a school where the staff and children are so passionate about making a difference to others, exemplified through our attempt to swim 1000 miles through the month of November for Children in Need.

“What a fantastic team we have here at Balsall Common Primary School Academy.”
