SHIRLEY fell silent to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice on Armistice Day (November 11).

Residents at Solihull Retirement Village came together to remember the fallen during a special service which featured creative installations.

Keith Holdswoth, Pete Pearce, and Alan Skimkin created the masterpieces which have been on display in the lead up to Remembrance.

During the service John Robinson laid a wreath.

A spokesperson for Solihull Retirement Village said: “Every year we try to do something a bit more special and this year we had James Wong from Shirley Pipe Band join us.

“Residents want to take part in events like this to remember their own families.

“They all laid crosses as well.”

Observer photographer, Marcus Mingins, was at the service and captured these pictures.
