SOLIHULL schools joined forces to donate food to vulnerable families across the borough.
For the annual harvest festival celebrations pupils at Damson Wood Nursery and Infant School Academy and Balsall Common Primary School Academy collaborated on a Helping Hands fundraising week to promote the values of empathy, community, social responsibility and active citizenship.
This year, the schools in Central Schools Trust, which oversees the running of the schools, wanted to extend that celebration by giving back to those who may be facing challenging times.
The schools collected food and hygiene items to be distributed through the Renewal Church in Solihull, whose Helping Hands charity gives much-needed parcels to families in the community who need them the most.
Graeme Burgess, chief executive of Central Schools Trust, said: “The importance of teaching pupils the value of giving back to their communities at an early stage in their lives, helps to build compassion and to broaden their awareness that some households in our borough are in need of support.”
