Solihull prepares for Armistice Day

Solihull Editorial 5th Nov, 2024 Updated: 5th Nov, 2024   0

SOLIHULL will fall silent on Sunday (November 10) to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

To commemorate this year’s Armistice Day there will be a host of events being held across the borough from services to poppy-inspired activities.

There have also been a number of installations put into place to remember the fallen.

The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Shahin Ashraf visited the St Alphege Church knitted poppy installation as part of this year’s Remembrance Day.

The Mayor joined the knitted and crocheted poppy appeal in July this year, calling for creative and crafty volunteers from across the borough to help make a very special display.

The finished installation is now available to see at the entrance of St Alphege Church in Solihull town centre.

This knitted poppy installation is one of many displays across the borough that have been created to bring local communities together to mark Remembrance Day.

On Sunday (November 10), events will be taking place all over Solihull, including a number of local Remembrance Sunday services and precessions.

The Mayor said: “It is heartening to see so many displays of support and solidarity around Solihull for this year’s Remembrance Day.

“With our beautiful knitted poppy installations throughout the borough, the Core’s Remembrance Card display and Artie, our own paper mâché soldier sitting in the Council’s Civic Suite reception, everyone has a space in the local community to pause and take a moment to remember the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces.

“Many local precessions and tributes will be taking place on Sunday, November 10 so please be mindful of the road closures in place on that day.

“I encourage everyone in the borough to take the opportunity to reflect on Remembrance Day, honouring those who served us and those who continue to serve the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”

Another way residents can show their support and solidarity is by filling in a Remembrance Card, to honour a loved one who served in the Armed Forces.

Complete a Remembrance Card and return it to the Core Library in person, by email ([email protected]), or online on the Solihull Life website for inclusion in the commemorative display, which will be available to view at the Core Library until November 16.
