Having a spooktacular time handing out advice in Shard End

Solihull Editorial 4th Nov, 2024   0

FAMILIES and police came together for a fang-tastic Halloween crime prevention event in Shard End.

The spooktacular event took place at the Shard End Wellbeing Centre on Packington Avenue and drew a crowd of over 250 residents.

It was an opportunity for families and residents to get to know their neighbourhood team, pick up essential crime prevention tips, and learn about the vital wellbeing support available to the elderly and vulnerable.

The children also had fun meeting the force’s friendly four-legged friends and learning about the important work dog handlers carry out.

Thanks to generous donations from Iceland and the Co-op, hot food was served all day long.

Also, thanks to the McCarthy Stone Foundation, hot water bottles and bed socks were handed out to keep elderly residents warm this winter.

Everyone got into the Halloween spirit with some amazing costumes.

Georgina Johnstone, engagement officer for Birmingham said: “It was wonderful to see our community come together for such a fun and important event, especially the children who were full of excitement and dressed in their spookiest costumes.

“We took the opportunity to provide valuable crime prevention advice and hand out warm items like hot water bottles and bed socks so our residents feel safe and supported as we head into the colder months.

“We’re so grateful to our partners, volunteers, and the local businesses who donated food and other items to ensure everyone had a great time. We’re already looking forward to our next community event!”
