SHIRLEY’S Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal has officially been launched – and organisers are hoping for yet another bumper fundraising year after last year’s record-breaking efforts.
Last year Shirley Royal British Legion raised just over £46,000 for the Poppy Appeal.
And hopes are high that the people of Solihull will dig deep once again.
Ken Russell, branch chairman of Shirley Royal British Legion said, “I would like to thank the people of Shirley for their generosity over the years and hope that this year’s appeal will raise the vital funds that will be used to provide financial, social and emotional support to those men and women who have served or are currently serving in the British Armed Forces, and their families.”
Collectors will be in Parkgate on Saturday October 26 and November 2.
Poppies will also be available throughout Shirley in the run-up to this year’s Remembrance Sunday on November 10.
The Remembrance Sunday parade will again be on the Stratford Road.
It will form up on the north bound side adjacent to the entrance of Parkgate under the instructions of the parade Marshall and stewards.
All members of the Royal British Legion, veterans and serving personnel are welcome to march on the parade with the Royal British Legion contingent.
A small service will also be held at St James’s on Armistice Day, November 11.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Shahin Ashraf , said: “I want to thank you for supporting the Poppy Appeal.
“Every poppy truly makes a difference to the lives of our Armed Forces community. Supporting your local poppy appeal is one small way you can make a huge positive difference, by donating to an important cause and honouring our Armed Forces community here in Solihull.
“hank you to the Shirley Royal British Legion for their continuing dedication and generosity.”
Fund raising is a vital ingredient in ensuring the future of the Royal British Legion which is in urgent need of volunteers.
