Jobs fairs galore in drive to match employers with candidates

WITH Christmas on the horizon job opportunities in Solihull are on the rise according to Job Centre bosses.

Jangeer Kayani partnership manager for Birmingham and Solihull said many employers are looking for temporary staff to fill their Christmas vacancies and jobseekers will find inspiration and lots of help to apply at their local jobcentre.

Jangeer added: “Many will find that seasonal work provides an opportunity to build new skills and experience, which can be carried forward later to a permanent role.

“We’re working hard with employers in the neighbourhood to identify their vacancies, which will ensure jobseekers have the best chance to find work that suits their personal situation.”

As well as temporary job opportunities there has been a number of jobs fairs and boot camps with employers including HS2 Employer and Supply Partners Engagement sessions at Chelmsley Wood and Washwood Heath Job Centres.

There is also support specifically to help graduates get into employment, including information sessions to highlight opportunities available and a jobs fair at Birmingham Central Job centre looking at employment opportunities in IT, Cyber Security, Finance, Accounting and Operational Management in the Care Sector.

Jangeer said: “Following on from a recent jobs fair in Solihull where a variety of employers and partners attended, over 110 customers arrived for their appointments to be supported by employers and service providers, including Solihull Council, University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation NHS Trust, British Army, Birmingham Airport and many more, 29 customers were referred employment opportunities at Birmingham Airport, 19 customers were progressed to interviews, whilst 12 graduates were referred to opportunities under the Grad Retune Scheme.

“Importantly parents on Universal Credit can receive help with childcare payments. Jobseekers can search our DWP ‘FindaJob’ website, to check out the thousands of jobs on offer.”
