Third win of the season Old Silhillians

OLD Silhillians earned their third win of the season after coming away from Edgbaston with a 3-1 victory in the Midland Hockey League Division One.

Playing on a water-based astroturf pitch at the University of Birmingham, the visitors started tentatively and struggled to find their touch and fluent passing rhythm on a bouncy water-based pitch.

A strong defensive structure from both teams lead to most of the play being concentrated in the midfield and the only goal of the half came from a speculative long ball from Edgbaston which was met with a faint deflection to give them the lead into half-time.

After some tactical instructions at the break from Dan Sulway, Old Silhillians soon found their touch and started moving the ball around with man-of-the-match Tom Harrison controlling the game from the back.

The visitors soon drew level thanks to some good build up play from Jamie Glynn which allowed Matt Fell a simple back post deflection.

That goal increased confidence and they were soon in front thanks to skipper Jon Hollway who turned over the ball in the middle of the park and drove into the D which drew out the keeper and set up Tom Banton to finish into the empty net.

Old Silihillians looked strong all over the pitch and were able to grab a third and decisive goal just before full-time through top scorer Jamie Glynn, whose reverse stick shot beat the keeper leaving the final score at 3-1.
