A TOP coach from Barcelona is coming to Solihull to help improve one of the borough’s leading sports clubs.
Solihull Tennis Club has landed a deal with the Barcelona Tennis Centre (BTC) in Spain to provide coaching for its adult and junior members at the club’s six artificial grass courts at Marsh Lane in Solihull.
While Barcelona is world known for its famous football club, the city is also gaining a world-wide reputation with the BTC, which was founded in 2012 and is run by ex-ATP World Tour player Mario Muñoz Bejarano.
Mario has beaten legendary players such as Lleyton Hewitt, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Stanislas Wawrinka and he has also coached the brother of Novak Djokovic and Maria Kirilenko.
Alex Alzuria runs BTC alongside Mario and also has several years of varied coaching experience. He will be joined at Solihull by new head coach, Oscar Martinez, who will be leading the coaching programme.
Solihull chairman Pat Lyons said: “It is an achievement for Solihull Tennis Club to recruit a coaching team of BTC’s calibre.
“Solihull Tennis Club and Barcelona Tennis Centre are both excited by this opportunity and we are very much looking forward to working together, along with the tennis committee and members, to develop and enhance our coaching programme.”
There are many new opportunities available at Solihull which include tennis camps, the opportunity to learn Spanish alongside tennis coaching and there is also the chance to go on leisure trips to Barcelona.
All member and non members are invited to meet the new coaches this Saturday from 10am-3pm where free taster and hitting sessions will be taking place.
Complimentary light refreshments will also be served and membership fees will be reduced for any new members. For more information visit www.solihulltennisclub.co.uk or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
