TWO Solihull players have been called up for the Great Britain Women’s side for the World Championships in April.

Katie Henry has been named in Cheryl Smith’s squad for the tournament in Bled, while Kate Rugby has been selected as a reserve.

Great Britain, who have won silver medals in the last two years, will play in the Ledena Dvorana ice rink in the Divison 2A group from April 2-8.

As well as facing hosts Slovenia in the six-team tournament, Smith’s side will come up against Croatia, South Korea, Poland and North Korea.

“I think we have picked an exciting squad,” said Smith. “There really is a great mix of youth and experience on our roster for Bled.

“We had two warm-up games against Netherland, which gave us the opportunities to try a few ideas.

“We feel the team selected will give us the right mix of skill, work rate and experience.

“The coaching staff are also excited by the young players in the squad and some who did so well at the recent Under-18 Women’s World Championship in Austria.”
