Solihull Municipal drop to third after Rugby defeat

A SECOND defeat of the season for Solihull Municipal at home to saw them slip down to third in the Warwickshire Premier League.

Rugby got off to a flying start through Assad Quereshi (31) and Henry Wilkins (27) before the latter lost his off-stump to Alex Roslyn in the seventh over with 40 on the board.

Michael Powell (22) helped Quereshi add 42 before snicking James Roslyn into the hands of wicket-keeper Kevin Bissett.

Matt Stanley soon accounted for Quereshi and Matt Ewer and with Roslyn restricting scoring opportunities and picking up three further wickets the innings slipped to 100 for 7.




Steve Ward and Jack Rosser rebuilt the innings with a stand of 86 before Alex Roslyn returned to the attack to trap Rosser lbw for 25.

Lee Golding thumped 28 from 18 balls before Matt Stanley, on his way to claiming 4 for 34, had him caught by Nathan Reynolds and wrapped up the innings by bowling Tom Wilkins for a duck, leaving Ward unbeaten on 63 made off 60 balls including eight fours and two sixes.


The Municipal reply faltered to 13 for 4 with wickets being shared by Matt Ewer, Lee Golding, Owen Edwards, and Henry Wilkins.

Jamie Bissett (37), Craig Bissett (16) and Matt Stanley (17) provided some resistance before the re-introduction of Edwards ripped through the middle order on his way to a five wicket haul for just eight runs from ten overs.

Rosser claimed five catches at the wicket the last of which was Jamie Bissett off Powell.

This weekend Municipal will be looking to get back to winning ways when they hosts Highway Spartans on Saturday.
