Liam Delves gearing up for British debut

AFTER joining Banks Racing at the end of last year Stechford teenager Liam Delves is set to make his debut in the Motostar British championship which is run as a support series to the high profile British Superbike series.

The 14-year-old will also return to the North Gloucester Club where he won the 2013 and 2014 F125 titles, only this time he is moving up to the GP125 class to race a Honda GP125 for Moto- Engineering UK.

The ride came about from the support Delves received from the Cotswolds company last year.

After a bad crash at Anglesey, the Smiths Wood College student’ bike was all but destroyed but Moto-Engineering UK took the bike back to their workshop and carried out all the necessary repairs so that the teenager could ride at Pembrey a few weeks later where he secured the F125 title for a second time.

The company were keen to carry on their association with Delves this year and offered to provide the bike and backup to run him in the North Gloucester club GP125 class throughout the season.

“I am very grateful to Paul and Max from Moto-Engineering UK and I will be doing my best to bring them some top results.” said Delves.

“This is a great opportunity for me as I can continue to race with the club and this will give me extra track time with a GP125 machine which will be of great benefit to me by giving me more experience to take forward into the Motostar championship.

“The North Gloucester club were happy to have me back, it’s a friendly club that has helped me this last two years and I am really pleased to continue with them.

“Pete Banks from Banks Racing has also giving me his blessing to run in both championships as he believes it will give me the extra confidence needed to race at the top level in the British championship.”

Delves took the Moto-Engineering UK Honda out for the first time at Mallory Park last Wednesday for a shake down test which went very well.

He went on to take in a further test day at Donington Park on Friday to enable him to gain further track time ahead of the first round of the North Gloucester club races that take place at Brands Hatch this weekend.

The opening round of the Motostar British Championship takes place over the Easter weekend of April 4-6 when Delves will take part in two races, one on the Sunday and the second on Easter Monday.
