TEENAGER Jake Stewart capped off a thrilling seven days for Solihull Cycling Club by claiming one gold and three bronze medals at the National Youth track Championships at the Manchester Velodrome.

The 16-year-old had already won silver medals in both the National Omnium Championships and the National Circuit Race Championships.

He also won the prestigious London GP Youth race and this time around in Manchester he took the first and most important of his medals in the points race, which was a mix of endurance, tactics and regular high speed sprinting every ten laps.

This was the highlight of the week in terms of race performances as Stewart was awarded the coveted national champions jersey.

Following on from this success, Stewart then rode a selection of sprint and endurance events, showing his versatility as one of the up-and-coming talents of the 2015 season. Stewart’s bronze medals came in the endurance events of the Individual Pursuit and the scratch race, then also in the sprint event of the 500 metre time trial.

He has become the fourth Solihull Cycling Club youth rider who has won a national championship in the last few years and his success follows in the footsteps of Danielle Kahn, Jack Ravenscroft and Lucy Shaw.

Hot on the heels of Stewart are other riders who shone at the national championships with Matt Shaw and Alex Yates putting in outstanding performances for the team.
