BIRMINGHAM City Ladies defender Aoife Mannion has committed her future to the club after signing a new contract ahead of the 2016 Women’s Super League season.

The 20-year-old, who has established a solid partnership in the heart of the Blues defence with Kerys Harrop, will remain at the club for the new campaign which kicks off in March.

Mannion began her career at Aston Villa where she came through the club’s centre of excellence before moving to rivals Birmingham in August 2013.

The versatile defender acknowledges that her background in Gaelic football helped prepare her for the top flight and sha has also represented England at Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 level.

“Aoife is yet another local youngster that has progressed greatly in the last few seasons,” said Blues Ladies boss David Parker.

“She continues to go from strength to strength and having Aoife at the heart of the team will prove invaluable as we continue to grow.

“Aoife is no doubt a future leader with great composure and confidence and she has a massive future ahead of her.”
