A CHARITY cricket tournament at a Solihull sports club has netted more than £10,000 to help improve a former spin bowler’s quality of life.

Supporting last Sunday’s fundraiser at Blossomfield Club were X Factor finalists, The Neales plus former Aston Villa captain, Stiliyan Petrov.

Proceeds from the event will help fund a much-needed wet room for club stalwart and former spin bowler, Mark ‘Nobby’ Whitehead. Mark was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in his mid-thirties, and more recently with Multiple System Atrophy.

Mark and his wife, Maria recently moved back to the West Midlands from London.

Some of the items auctioned at raffled at the event included a Jonny Wilkinson signed rugby shirt, a box at St Andrews for a Birmingham City game and a signed England cricket shirt from England v West Indies in 2012.
