BLOSSOMFIELD players helped the Heart of England squad enjoy unprecedented success in the annual English Pétanque Association Inter-Regional Championships at Hayling Island.
Husband and wife, Barry and Carol Cox, teamed up with Alfonso Garcia Rasero and Di Scott to win no fewer than nine of their ten matches over the weekend which did much to help an eight-strong Heart of England team clinch the Division Two championship in the main event and secure promotion back into the top flight following a two-year absence.
There were double promotion celebrations as a four-strong Heart of England team also finished runners-up in the Challenge event, while the region’s promising youngsters claimed third place in the Junior event behind Kent and Chiltern.
Delighted Heart of England president Barry Cox said: “It was the best ever result for the region with every player earning a medal.
“Earning promotion to the top flight again was a great achievement and reward for a wonderful team spirit, I was so proud of everyone.”
