Blossomfield cricket talents selected for county

EIGHT girls from Blossomfield Cricket Club’s junior section have been selected for Warwickshire county squads.

Under-11s Natasha Smitten, Beth Sargent and Mary Bishop, under-13s Laura Smitten, Hannah Downs, Livia Plester and Victoria Beard as well as under-17s player Khadija Tariq have all been called up by the board.

The call ups mean the club’s county contingent for girls cricket has been boosted from six to eight in just a few months – and girls head coach John Boyce was delighted with the progress the club has made.

He said: “We’ve experienced a surge in membership this year following England’s success over Australia this summer when regaining the Ashes.

“Nevertheless we still have the capacity to accept more youngsters into our highly-successful group – which is supported by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) registered and qualified coaching team.”

Paul Law, the newly appointed chairman of Solihull Blossomfield cricket club, praised John’s coaching efforts.

He added: “Great credit goes to John and his coaching team for their ability to prepare Blossomfield girls for cricket at county level.

“We are continuing our girls cricket programme on Tuesdays at the Tudor Grant indoor sports facility – starting on January 12 and we’re welcoming all newcomers.

“We will be participating in Warwickshire Cricket Board’s 2016 programme for girls next summer – running teams at Under 11, 13 and 15, with both softball festivals and hard ball cricket.”
