NINE members of Shirley Tae Kwon-Do Club are celebrating after earning their black belt grades following a successful grading in Bristol.

Irina Guy, Sunny Jagatia, Paul Hemming, and  Michael Jeffs were all awarded second Dan black belts, while Shweta Jagatia, Callum Corbett, Taylor Nixon, Yash Chudasama and Nathan Parmar were all promoted to frist Dan black belts.

All students train under three-time World Champion and international instructor Steve Merricks who said: “It’s a unique situation for an instructor to have so many students going for black belt Dan grades all at the same time.

“They had all prepared well and trained extremely hard, putting in extra training along the way to reach this level.

“I am proud of each one of them for the commitment and dedication they have shown to get this far in their training. It doesn’t stop now however as we will be busy training for the World Championships at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham this July hoping to produce some new World Champions.”
