Sports open day encourages borough residents to keep active

A SPORTS open day at the North Solihull Sports Centre has encouraged older borough residents to stay fit and healthy.

The day, organised by Solihull Active, saw more than 120 people take part in the annual ‘Active for Life’ event, which offered attendees the chance to try their hand at a range of sports and gentle exercise classes for free.

Activities on offer included badminton, table tennis, tai chi and yoga as well as gym introductions for anyone interested in using the facilities at the centre.

There was also a guided walk through nearby Meriden Park as part of National Walking Month and the council’s Walk Solihull campaign.

Commenting on the event, Solihull’s new Mayor, Coun Mike Robinson, said: “It is important for all members of the community to keep as fit and healthy as possible, which is why fun events such as ‘Active for Life’ are so vital.

“Events like this allow people to discover the various activities on offer to them and provide opportunities to socialise with others, which can be extremely beneficial, particularly to our older residents.”
