A SOLIHULL man has been arrested on suspicion of affray following brawl at a Birmingham railway station.
The 60-year-old is among eight men arrested after a 58-year-old man suffered a head injury during a fight on a train that spilled out onto the platform at University rail station in Birmingham.
Police quickly arrived at the scene at around 8pm last Thursday (August 11) and arrested the men, aged between 28 and 60, in connection with the incident.
Alongside the 60-year-old Silhillian, a 60-year-old from Birmingham was also arrested on suspicion of affray.
Four men aged 50, 34 and 28 from Birmingham and a 28-year-old from Coventry were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
A 41-year-old Birmingham man was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and causing grievous bodily harm, while a 54-year-old man also from Brmingham was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and possession of a Class A drug
The injured man was taken to hospital with a concussion.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses to the disorder, which took place on the 6.48pm Hereford to Birmingham New Street service.
Chief Inspector Chris Hodgkiss from BTP said: “This level of violence is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated, and we are determined to identify all those involved and bring them to justice.
“This kind of behaviour on a train, where people wish to travel in peace and free from incidents of this nature, is frankly disgraceful.
“We have launched an investigation and we are speaking to potential witnesses to establish exactly what happened.
It is understood the fight was between two separate groups who boarded the train at Worcester Foregate Street at around 7.30pm.
Anyone who was travelling on that train is urged to contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040, quoting reference 556m, with any information about the circumstances leading up to the fight and how the man became injured.
