A BOROUGH high school has gone the extra mile to help others this Christmas by sending over 100 festive shoe boxes to charity.

Contributing to the Operation Christmas Child project, hundreds of Lyndon Secondary School students provided toiletries, hats, scarves, toys, colouring books and more for disadvantaged children across 150 countries.

The school encouraged students from year 7 to dig out their old, unwanted, toys and provide the world with the greatest gift Christmas can offer.

Each student brought in their own box, some pupils donated two or three boxes to Operation Christmas – who have sent over 124 million shoeboxes since 1990.

Teacher Coral Redpath champions the project every year.

Caroline Sheldon, communications manager at Lyndon school, said Ms Redpath does a fantastic job with the school’s charity efforts as do the pupils themselves.

She added: “The project helps to teach the children about sharing and thinking of those children who may not be lucky enough to wake up on Christmas day with presents.

“I was overwhelmed with the support this year, even though times are hard in this country everyone dug deep and provided a a contribution to the project and it’s a credit to the pupils and their families for getting involved.”

It would seem the Operation Christmas project is just one of several charities that benefit from the school’s fundraising efforts.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital, St Basil’s and Macmillan Cancer Support have all been supported by Lyndon school.

Ms Sheldon said: “Our school is split into three colleges, Birmingham, Coventry and Warwick.

“Each college raises funds for their own individual charity which we raise money for across the school term.
