THE SHIRLEY Pipe Band were involved in HM The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations as they performed in London on Sunday.

Members of the band not only performed in front of 10,000 people who lined the Mall, but also millions of people who tuned in up and down the country.

The band was at the front of the parade which represented the charities headed by the Queen.

Chairman of Shirley Pipe Band, Dave Mellor said: “When we were given the command to start the first performance we were tired of standing, and we were very wet.

“However, as we marched around the corner from Horse Guards Road, all of this was forgotten.

“Suddenly there was half a mile of the Mall stretched out in front of us, lined with enthusiastic crowds and with Buckingham Palace in the distance.

“It was an amazing sight.

“I have played at all manner of events, in locations all around the UK and across Europe, but this was the pinnacle of them all.”
