Mell Square set to launch Sunday fun day this weekend

MELL SQUARE is preparing for a month of Sunday summer events.

Each Sunday from July 12 till August 2, the centre of town will be transformed into a hub of summer activity.

Drawing inspiration from all aspects of local life, the ‘Sunnyhull’ Sundays will feature a different theme each week and include celebrity performances, workshops and market stalls.

Beginning with the Fashion, Health and Beauty day this weekend (Sunday, July 12), Sunnyhull will start in style with pop-up boutiques, beauty labs and fashion tips.

Attendees can also book online onto a free two hour or express pamper sessions in House of Fraser or drop-in for a free makeover or fashion consultation with fashion blogger Emily-Jayne.

Singers Howard Rose and Daniel Duke from BBC One’s The Voice will be taking to the Sunnyhull stage from 12pm-2pm, whilst shoppers can relax and enjoy a tipple from the Little Red Bus Bar – a classic 1970 VW bay window campervan bar offering Prosecco, cocktails, real ales and lagers, soft drinks, teas and coffees.

But if pampering and Prosecco aren’t quite up your street, Sunday July 19 will see the Square host a Food and Drink extravaganza.

Those with a healthy appetite can take part in the ultimate Man VS Food eating competition, while youngsters can try their hand in the kitchen at a pop-up cookery school.

The third Sunnyhull weekend, set to take place on Sunday, July 26, will see family fun take over the square with screenings of Toy Story, Shrek and Frozen being shown on the special pop-up cinema.

Complete with hair chalking, nail painting, balloon modelling, chocolate making, hula necklace tutorials and face painting throughout the day, organisers are promising something for all ages to enjoy.

And Sunnyhull will come to a close on Sunday, August 2, with a Home and Garden day – billed as the perfect event for ‘budding interior designers and green-fingered enthusiasts.’

Free ‘Knit and Chat’ haberdashery classes will take place from 11am until 2pm while workshops in edible gardening, canvas walls and potting are available at venues across the square.
