A MAN was left hospitalised after a ‘nasty’ machete attack in broad daylight this morning (Monday).

Officers were called to Tile Cross Road, Fordbridge just after 8.10am after receiving reports of a 50-year-old man being left seriously injured.

Detectives have launched an investigation and cordoned off a section of Tile Cross Road while they examine the scene.

Shortly after the report a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault – he is currently in custody and will be questioned later today.

Officers also want to track down a second man who was seen running from the scene and driving off in a blue BMW.

Det Insp Caroline Corfield said: “This was a nasty attack that happened in a busy area in broad daylight this morning.

“At this early stage we believe this to have been a targeted attack. This kind of violence will not be tolerated and we need your help to bring those responsible to justice.”

She added they had already had several witnesses come forward and she was asking anyone else who had information about what happened to come forward as soon as possible.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
